Second International Festival Kievan Rus will take place April 24 - 14 October 2010 at the Kievan Rus Park at Kopachiv village in the Kiev region. THis year it will be the longest cultural event in Ukrain and in the world, reports Unian (Ukrianian News Agency).
"We decided to extend the festival to allow more people feel the atmosphere of an ancient Rus and to understand that Kiev is the stronghold of Slavonic culture in the world. The festival will become a contural phenomenon of the year - the most picturesque and lengthy event not only in Ukraine but in Europe as well", says President of Slavonic Foundation charity Vladimir Yanchenko.

As oeganizers say, this year Kievan Rus Park wil invite more than 10 thousand artists from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland, France, Germany, Australia, USA and Canada. Festival participants will reconstruct events and atmosphere of the past in theatre actions - they will play knights, vikings, pilgrims and warriors. Visitors of the Kievan Rus Park will be able to get involved in entertainments, mascarades, fire shows and concerts with invited guests from CIS and Europe.

There will also be a trade show where you will be able to purchase handmade souvenirs. You can also learn crafts from professionals - embedding, smiths, pottery etc. The most enterntaining events are planned for weekends. Some highlights include - Kiev Day, Yarylo Day, Honey Day, Independence Day, Indian Summer Day and others.

Now an ancient fortress of V-XIII century is being reconstructed at the park with 1:1 scale with the precise historical correspondence. First stage of reconstruction will be finished by 2012 and second stage - in 7 years. Scientists call Kievan Rus Park a cultural capital of Eastern Slavic Civilisation. Founders of the Park think that this project will become one of the tourist Mecca of Ukraine. It takes 45 minutes to reach the park from downtown Kiev. Special busses go from Vydubychi metro station.
