Kamianec -Podilskyj is a museum town.
Kamianec -Podilskyj is a museum town. The old part of town is conversion area regularly visited by tourists. There is a historical museum, picture gallery, a planetarium and, the most interesting, - the mediaeval castle! Having visited this town you fall in love with it forever!
The location of the town is unique: it is situated on the rocky peninsula surrounded by the deep canyon of the river Smotrich - the left inflow of the river Dnister. Mediaeval Kamianec was connected to the land only with a narrow neck. The Smotrich canyon is about 98,4 feet high, and 500-650 feet wide. The natural might of the town was extended by fortification constructions.
The Kamianec fortress is one of the most unassailable defensive constructions of Ukraine.
|
It was built in XIV c. on a high rocky coast of Smotrich river to protect the Turkish bridge that was the only entry to the city. The first written description of Kamianec fortress is dated back to 1494. On the town side the castle had a gate with a tower, on the Northern side it had the Pol’ni gate. The castle was armed with 11 guns and one big "tarasnytsia". In 1621 the new castle was constructed under the direction of the royal engineer Teofil Shomberg. It was designed to defend against the gunnery. The new castle consisted of two bastions with casemates and a curtain surrounded by the dry ditch. The system of vaults, and the majority of stone walls remained intact till now. |
The Hotyn fabulous castle
|
The image of the stronghold on a bank of a mighty river attracted attention of many movie producers. And no wonder that many films were made here. Just remember ”The Ballad about the Brave Knight Ivanhoe", "The Three Musketeers", "The Robin Hood's Arrows ", "The Old Castle" and many others. The Hotyn castle was based in the beginning of XI c. by the Kiev prince Volodymyr The Great. It was the part of the frontier fortresses system and was used by ancient Slavs for protection of the settlements. |

Bungee jumping or feel like a bird
The mankind aspired to fly for ages. But, having conquered the sky by planes, it turned back to the nature. Flights without any mechanical means are possible in bungee jumping (jumping headfirst with the rubber rope on ankles). Bungee jumping is usually made from high places like bridges, high buildings, hanging rocks, towers etc. The rubber rope springs preventing your legs from coming off and adding additional sensation to a jump.

The Crystal cave
|
The entrance corridor of a cave is very long – about the 3300 feet. The way coils like a snake. Walls are covered with a variety of crystals. Here and there a way gets narrow and you need to tighten your belt to pass. Underground rooms are full of stone images: a head of a buffalo, an owl, an eagle, etc. And what about walking between the dragon’s teeth or on the backbone of the crocodile? Be sure, you will enjoy the Stone of Desires and Merry Slopes as well. Here you can beat the drum of the Cave’s Master or touch a a stone with your forehead to remove a headache.
|
The castle is situated in a southwest part of the town, in a flood land of the Hnyla River. It was built in 1630 by Polish architect Khristof Vihrovski. From the North and South East the castle was surrounded by the 2-meter deep ditch filled with the river water. From two other sides access to a fortress was blocked with bogs. Walls of the castle were of 6-meter high and two-meter thick. During wars with Turkey the fortress was heavily damaged and lost its defensive functions. At the end of XV c. Yan Firley, a new owner of the castle, reconstructed it and used as the habitation. He built a new palace, decorated the stone entrance gate with the stone knight, vase and a memorial board describing the history of the castle. Old towers were renewed too.
Terebovlya
|
|
Terebovlia is a wonderful city with a spirit of a fairy tale! There are a lot of things worth seeing. Do not limit your trip to visiting castle and karmelitski convent: there is also a church, a town hall, a local lore museum and extremely interesting necropolis. Crypts and individual tombs decorated with sculptures made of red local stone produce the original Gothic atmosphere. | Bouchach
Bouchach laid on so-called " Volosky Way " which went along Dnister from the South Europe. The most ancient memorial in Bouchach is the remains of the castle built by Ukrainian feudal lords Buchanski on the place of the older strengthening. The remaining walls and towers are of the 16th century. Walls (up to 3,5 m. thick) had 3 circles of detours with loopholes for firearms. The strongest semicircular wall with two towers faces the Zamkova Street of the town. The fortress also comprises the Renascence palace, probably, built on the place of an older construction. The palace was decorated with galleries with arcades. In the middle of a court yard there was a fountain.
Yazlovets
|
Yazlovets castle greets us with its old walls growing from red ground of a magnificent canyon of Velhovets river and unusual nature with wild, ancient woods covering soft hills and bloody-red ground. Gloomy ruins tower above showing sharp corners and precipices, empty loopholes and fine portals. The greatest building in Yazlovets except the castle was the sandstone Renaissance -Gothic church built in 1589-1590.

Chervonograd
|
Chervonograd is princely city of 11-st century which now cannot be found on any map, ancestral lands of Korjatovichi, Danilovichi and Buchanski magnates. It is fortified and decorated with the nature itself. Red ground under your feet, red lacet of the road, a real mountain one, which leads you to an ancient bridge, red as well, over small streamlet, green crater of woods around you, 16-meter high waterfall, the highest one on plains Ukraine and the final chord - snow-white ruins of fine castle. It seems this beauty is not real, and can only be seen on pictures in bright guidebooks |
| Skala-Podolsky
The castle in Skala-Podolsky was the guard and symbol of the town, its image has been used even on town’s official seal since 1531. The castle was protected by rocks and the river from three sides and only was accessible from the south. But from this side a deep ditch was dug out, stone walls and a powder tower were constructed. From the southern side was entrance gate one could reach only through a drawbridge which at need was turned down on chains. The church constructed in 1719 also deserves attention of tourists. G.Logvin's called this temple ‘the last echo of a gothic style in Ukraine’. Another big church stands on a hill, between Roman-Catholic church and the castle. There is a well below the church that is believed to be one of the most ancient on Podolia. Locals call it "Royal". There are also ruins of a Neogothic church in the town.
Ternopol
The first written mention of this town is dated back to 1540. Ternopol occupied small territory in 16-th century. The tower was protected with Shoe and Furrier's towers and Kamenec gate. They made fortification system of old Ternopol together with the castle, synagogue, church of Christmas and Vozdvizensky temple. The tower was surrounded from three sides by the lake and bogs, and on eastern side it was strengthen by the wide dry ditch with paling and two towers on corners.

Towers with loopholes rose on edges. It was possible to get into the castle through a drawbridge and stone gate. Only in the beginning of 19-th century F.Koritovs'ky has reconstructed the castle to make it a palace.
