breakfast at the hostel

Departure from Kiev. two and a half hour ride northwards to the border of
the "Chernobyl Exclusion Zone". The area is 214 km in perimeter. During the
bus ride a local guide from Chernobyl will tell the story of the city, present
facts about the nuclear power plant, describe what happened in 1986, how
many people were evacuated, what were the consequences and other frightening
things of the disaster.

Arrival
at the border of 30 km's exclusion zone of Chernobyl catastrophy. Change
of bus (you will have to change a comfortable bus that brought you to the
border of the Zone for 2 old Soviet busses - the only ones that are allowed
to enter the Zone)

11:00-13:00

1.
Control point at the military block-post "Dytyatky". Getting permission for
entering the Zone.
2. Full information about the liquidation of the catastrophe consequences
in the of 30 km Zone. Info about the most polluted places and heavy machinery
cemetery. Forecasts for the future of the Zone.
3. A photo-stop near the 4th reactor of the Chernobyl station. This very
reactor actually exploded on April 26, 1986. You will stand 100 m close to
the most secret and "closed" site of the Zone.
4. Visit to the press-center and a documentary about the catastrophy and
liquidation of its consequences, including life stories of the dead and survived
firemen. Little-known first-hand information about the sarcophagus (shelter)
built around the 4th reactor today.
5. Visit the Sarcophagus (shelter) - concrete and steel construction covering
radioactive masses and debris left after the explosion.

at the local old-style Soviet cafeteria (6 course menu)

Go on with the excursion. Experience the peace and quiet of the Chernobyl
ghost-town Prypyat - all 47.500 inhabitants had to abandon their homes the
next day after the accident. Explore the deserted apartment blocks, schools,
hotels and kindergartens...

* It is also possible to organize
a two-day tour. Accommodation in hotel in Slavutich town. The town of Slavutich
is the youngest town in former Soviet Union and has population of about 30
thousand people. It was specially built by all 15 former Soviet republics
in Chernihiv forests for inhabitants of Prypjat and workers of Chernobyl
power station.
The Communist Party decided to build Slavutich as an example of a perfect
socialist town, using the most advanced city construction technologies of
the time. Architecture of every district of town is completely different.
The two-day Chernobyl tour includes visit to Slavutich international radiation
laboratory, trip on a military electric train taken daily by Chernobyl power
station workers, through Belarus, and many more...
